Title: Need to take suitable measures to protect the interests of tribals in various states of the country.
SHRI SALKHAN MURMU (MAYURBHANJ): Sir, the threat to evict nearly one crore Adivasis living close to different forests in India is going to be a big blow to their existence. This should stop. Similarly, reservation has been reduced from 73 per cent to 50 per cent to Adivasis and Moolvasis in Jharkhand. Reservation in appointments of many hundred clerks, peons and 200 Munsif Magistrates recently has not been given to Adivasis and Moolvasis in Jharkhand. These should be reviewed and cancelled.
Not a single Adivasi language, including Ho, Munda, Kurukh, Bodo, has yet been included in the Eighth Schedule. Santali, though spoken by more than Nepali, Manipuri, Konkani, Sanskrit, Sindhi and Kashmiri is left out for no justified reasons. Sarna Religion was refused the status in 2001 Census. The delay in scheduling of Adivasis of Assam Tea Garden areas is further sabotaging their identity and existence. I request you to advise the concerned Governments to take urgent action.
